CHRISTMAS MARKETS OF CATALONIA.

DECEMBER 4
Arrival in Barcelona and Welcome Dinner

Arrival in Barcelona. Transfer from Barcelona airport to your hotel in the city center.

Afternoon walking tour of the surrounding area.

Welcome dinner and brief overview of the week’s itinerary with your tour leader.

 

DECEMBER 5
Medieval and Christmas Fair in Vic

Breakfast at hotel.

Setting the tone for the trip, this morning we head up to the town of Vic for its annual Medieval Festival, one of the most popular local festivals in the region. Explore the city that was a major power in the middle ages as it dresses up for the season.

Enjoy a traditional lunch in a local restaurant before returning to Barcelona in the late afternoon.

 

DECEMBER 6
Barcelona Modernista and Panoramic Tour

Breakfast at hotel.

Enjoy a morning private tour of Barcelona’s Modernista heritage, including the must-see Modernista masterpiece, The Sagrada Familia, an amazing church designed by Antoni Gaudí, and a walk down Passeig de Gràcia.

After a 3 course lunch with wine in a local restaurant, we head up to Montjuic Mountain for a scenic overview of the city to end the day.

 

DECEMBER 7
Barcelona City Center Tour and the Christmas Market

Breakfast at hotel.

Morning Guided visit to Barcelona’s city center, including a stop at the Santa Llúcia Fair in front of the Cathedral, a Christmas market with over 200 years of history. Our guide will explain the how locals combine the traditional elements of Christmas with the not-so-traditional, making Barcelona one of the most interesting places to find Christmas decorations around.

Afternoon at leisure in the city.

DECEMBER 8
Small Town Treasures of Catalonia

Breakfast at hotel.

Today we drive up the coast to visit two lesser-known treasures of the Barcelona area: the fortress town of Hostalric, overlooking the valley and with views of the Pyrenees will be first on our list, and then we head to the capital of the Maresme, Mataró. This ancient Roman town actually pre-dates Barcelona and is home to a number of architectural and cultural treasures, and a Christmas market as well.

We will have lunch in a traditional tapas restaurant in Mataró before returning to Barcelona in the evening.

 

DECEMBER 9
Catalan Christmas Cooking Class

Breakfast at hotel.

This morning we delve once more into the holiday spirit, this time with a morning cooking course featuring traditional Catalan Christmas delights! First you do the shopping at the famous La Boqueria market then have a professional chef show you the best dishes to prepare to add a unique touch to this year’s holiday cooking.

 

DECEMBER 10
Montserrat Mountain and Cava Country

Breakfast at hotel.

Head up to the mountain of Montserrat to the Monastery and the Black Virgin (La Moreneta) of Montserrat. Visit the Sacred Cave where the black virgin was found and listen to L’Escolania, the oldest documented boys’ choir in Europe. Also take the chance to try some of the local products available for sampling outside the Monastery.

Afterwards head down the mountain to cava country where we will have the chance to see a master craftsman at work as we visit a cava producer who makes top-end cava using the traditional, handcrafted process before sampling a glass or two before we head back to Barcelona.

 

DECEMBER 11
The Costa Brava and Farewell Dinner

Breakfast at hotel.

Morning trip up the coast to the Costa Brava, where we will visit the small fishing villages that dot the rocky coastline, and even have the chance to eat a paella along the beach.

After lunch we return to Barcelona for the last afternoon at leisure in the city, for some last minute shopping or just to soak up the culture at a small café.

Evening farewell dinner.

 

DECEMBER 12
Transfer to Barcelona Airport for return flight
