MARCH 13

MARCH 14
Valencia City and the City of Arts and Sciences

Breakfast at hotel.

Morning guided tour of Valencia city center, including the walled city, the Cathedral, and the Carmen District in the morning.

After lunch visit the City of Arts and Sciences, an impressive modern complex designed by Valencia’s native son, Santiago Calatrava. Built along the dried Turia riverbed which runs through the city center, each of the parts was designed to host a different aspect of arts and sciences, and the buildings themselves are spectacular, as is what’s inside.

MARCH 15
The Albufera: Birthplace of Paella

Breakfast at hotel.

This morning head down to the Albufera National Park, birthplace of Paella. Take a guided boat tour through the wetlands region that has long been known for the quality of its rice and seafood. Stop in to visit an old fishermen’s house before enjoying a lunch of what else, paella!

Afternoon at leisure to enjoy the city’s celebrations, as Las Fallas gets underway.

MARCH 16
Discover the Local Wine Region

Breakfast at hotel.

Morning excursion out to the Requena wine region, to visit one of Spain’s fastest growing wine regions and visit one of its oldest wineries.

After a tour and tasting, enjoy the traditional cuisine of the inland Valencia region before returning to the city for the evening.

Optional tapas tour for dinner.

MARCH 17
Las Fallas: Valencia’s Biggest Festival and a Medieval Castle

Breakfast at hotel.

Morning at leisure in Valencia to visit more of Las Fallas ninots, the paper-mâché statues that are built by the local neighborhoods.

After lunch take a half-day tour to Xàtiva to explore the medieval town and the Castle, one of the best preserved castles in the region.

On the return trip, stop in for another traditional Valencia delight: Horchata!

MARCH 18
Cuenca – Home of the Hanging Houses and Farewell Dinner

Breakfast at hotel.

Day trip to Cuenca, a beautiful medieval city which dates to pre-Roman times and has been inhabited by Romans, Moors and Christians throughout the centuries. The rich cultural and natural heritage of the region offers discerning visitors the chance to discover some truly fascinating treasures: from the 12th century Cathedral and the old city to the famous Casas Colgadas "Hanging Houses". The houses are perched on the edge of the cliff on which the city rests, and have been a part of the landscape for centuries.
