This three hour visit to the old city center is a great way to get an overview of what the city has to offer, and to get feeling of what you want to do if you’re spending some time in the area, or a great highlights tour if you’re just stopping for a day.
Some of the highlights of this tour include:
- La Lonja. This Gothic building was originally used as the market during the Middle Ages and was the city’s first bank. It is considered one of the best examples of civic Gothic architecture in Spain.
- Central Market. This modernist building was built in 1914 and is still used as the main market in the city. The ceramic partitions and the colorful glasswork are excellent representatives of the modernist influence in the early 20th century.
- We will also discover some of the most interesting and recognizable squares in the old city: Plaza Redonda, Plaza Reina, Plaza Virgen and the Towers.
- Cathedral. Built on the site of a Roman temple, the Cathedral sits majestically in the middle of the city, and represents a mix of styles, from Baroque and Gothic to Renaissance. The Miguelete Tower, built in the late 14th and early 15th centuries, dominates the plaza.
- Taste local treat horchata and fartons, one of the most beloved and characteristic snacks of Valencia.
