San Sebastián: Route of the Corsairs

The name of the “French Coast” is given to the coastal area along the border of Spanish and French Basque Country. The result of a bellicose and dangerous past which is evident in places like the defensive structures of Hondarribia, the first stop along this route. San Juan de Luz, known as the “Pirates’-Viper’s Nest”, is the second stop, where we will learn details of the link between the “Sun King”, louis XIV, and the princess Maria Teresa. The day’s final stop is in the aristocratic town of Biarritz, the summer residence of Napoleon III and Empress Eugenia of Montijo. Here we can explore and stroll the streets of this beautiful, peaceful town.
